Shear House and Public Garden

This project is a culmination of studies on light and movement in architecture and the interplay between the two elements within the proposed final dwelling. The project consists of a dwelling for a photofile who prioritizes light in their space. The forms of the dwelling are derived from past partners projects that drew their designs from the operative terms “tunneling” and “interconnected”. Combing the design language of these past projects, the operative term for the final dwelling space is “shearing”. (This diagram showing how the final forms of the windows specifically were created by using the existing forms in the middle to tunnel and shearing away openings for light. The final model is a 3-story dwelling for a photographer with a public edible garden and farmers market at the sites base that generate revenue for the dweller.

The first-floor plan consists of all of the public spaces. Through the entrance of the site, the public is able to access the edible gardens, farmers market, gardener’s rooms, public bathrooms, and public gallery space. The dweller is also able to access their private space as they move onto the second floor. As the dweller moves to the second floor, they walk onto an outdoor patio space and move into the primary entrance of the home with living and kitchen in the middle, a collaborative photography studio to their right, and their more private programing to he left. The left of the house consists of a private sunroom framed by the largest window in the dwelling and their bathroom. The circulation allows ramp access to their office space below and stair access to the third and final floor which contains the dwellers sleeping area here. (Academic Project)
